Churros are Spanish fritters. Quick and easy to make, you only have to mix water and flour to prepare the dough, and then fry. To get a sweet touch, they are sprinkled with sugar. Churros are similar to doughnuts, but instead of having a ring shape, they are long and straight or slightly curved. Churros are usually eaten with hot chocolate.
Churros
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 cup plain flour
- Sugar, to decorate
Instructions
- Pour the cup of water in a saucepan and heat. Add a pinch of salt and one tsp of olive oil. Bring to boil.
- When it starts boiling, add the flour and stir thoroughly and constantly until the mixture is smooth and thick.
- Allow cooling until the dough is warm. Heat olive oil in a frying pan. Scoop the mixture in a piping bag with a star nozzle. When the oil is hot, pipe the mixture strips in the olive oil carefully (keep the nozzle close to the oil no to sprinkle hot oil). Every time a strip is long enough, snip it off with a pair of scissors.
- Fry for three minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the pan and drain on kitchen paper.
- Sprinkle with sugar and serve hot.
